Born in Kidderminster, Worcestershire in 1982, David has been involved in music ever since he can remember. His formative musical education included a rare hat-trick of distinctions at ABRSM Grade 8. After winning a scholarship to Birmingham Conservatoire, he carved out a successful career as a multi-instrumentalist, conductor, composer and arranger while completing his first degree at the Open University. His musical career has taken him from Canada to Casablanca, via a winter in Blackpool (there are no prizes for guessing which was coldest!). Notably adept and flexible in a huge variety of musical styles and settings, David nevertheless specialises in brass and vocal music, where he puts his vast experience in brass and wind bands, musical theatre, and church music to good use.

David later trained for ordained ministry in the Church of England at Ripon College Cuddesdon, reading undergraduate Theology at Oxford University, and subsequently obtaining an MA in Systematic & Philosophical Theology from Nottingham University. His first book, The Mind's Empty Tomb, was published in 2023 by Resource Publications (an imprint of Wipf and Stock).

David's music has been performed by musicians of all levels from children to leading professionals, in venues including Symphony Hall Birmingham and Worcester Cathedral, and at events including the National Youth Brass Band Championships and the Banff International Music Festival.
